Worst Eats · the certification office
Make it official
Some establishments deserve a plaque. Name the offender, enter the charge, and issue a genuine Certificate of Culinary Catastrophe — suitable for framing, posting, or quietly leaving on a windshield.
Don’t know who to certify? We can help.
The worst-rated restaurants near you are real, and we built the tool that finds them. Pick a winner, then come back and make it official.

The Worst Eats Certification Office issues exactly one kind of award, and it isn’t a good one. A certificate is not a legal document, a health citation, or a statement of fact about anybody’s actual food — it’s a joke you can hand to a place (or a person) that has earned a little gentle infamy. The case numbers are decorative. The seal is imaginary. The disappointment, frequently, is real.
Use it on the restaurant that served you a cold appetizer two seasons after you ordered it. Use it on the friend whose “famous” chili should be famous for different reasons. Use it on yourself, after the microwave incident. Then save the card and share it — every certificate carries the Worst Eats seal and a link home, so the joke travels with it.
Want the data behind the joke? We pulled the ratings of 1,850 restaurants and found that the truly bad ones have nearly gone extinct — the median restaurant in America now sits at 4.4 stars. The full investigation is in the inflation files, and you can test your own palate with the taste-crime quiz.
Certificates are free and always will be. If you’d like to fund the office, the tip jar is right here.
